It seems fitting that our final All-Star has been identified by multiple Medical and Administrative colleagues as being at the heart of the COVID work…our All-Star Captain perhaps?
Dr. Gordon Wood’s contributions over the past few months have made a profound difference in the care and lives of patients, the confidence of colleagues, and the readiness of facilities. As shared by Dr. Lorne Porayko, Dr. Daniel Ovakim, and Dr. Omar Ahmad:
“Gordon has spent countless hours repairing the hospital in the intensive care unit for the pandemic. He has worked to protect us by procuring PPE. He has created a cohesive team and fostered collaboration in an unprecedented fashion.”
“His tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic have been instrumental in keeping his colleagues within and outside the walls of the ICU up to date and informed with the latest epidemiological, clinical, and logistical concerns related to the pandemic”
“He is a prominent member of the provincial critical care working group established to ensure consistency in the province for how we can approach the management of these complex patients, and how best to allocate resources in the event of scarcity.”
“Dr. Wood has been invaluable in maintaining a presence and voice when it comes to complex challenges associated with COVID, including the ever changing and adapting practices related to PPE, transport of COVID-19 patients, and anticipated capacity issues.”
There can be no doubt that the South Island is incredibly lucky and grateful to have Dr. Gordon Wood as part of the team.
