2022 South Island MSA Award for Collaborative Leadership

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be recognizing those who received South Island MSA Recognition Awards at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

Our next award recognizes Collaborative Leadership, where members of the medical staff have partnered with the Health Authority and other organizations to lead change

Dr. Daisy Dulay provided a generous nomination for Dr. Maria Kang.

Over the past year, Maria has been championing the family friendly work environment, not only at RJH and VGH but throughout Island Health. What started as an exploratory project has grown to a broader conversation among physicians and with the Health Authority about the fact that physicians have human challenges that deserve to be supported in the workplace.

Additionally, Maria has been working very closely with Island Health to bring regularly-scheduled Schwartz Rounds to the community.  While this work has had its challenges, the impact it has had on participants is notable.

We thank Dr. Kang for her leadership, vision, and perseverance, and are pleased to present her with the 2022 Award for Collaborative Leadership.
