Upcoming changes to Mental Health Act forms

Mental Health Act Forms 4.1 and 4.2 will be changing as of Jan 31, 2024.

Those who actively support involuntary patients are required to compete Island Health’s provincially approved training, available at learninghub.phsa.ca/Courses/11716.

The online module is UBC CME accredited (1 Mainpro+ credit).  Estimated time to complete the module is one hour or less.

The Mental Health Standards target physician groups are those who regularly and actively admit and or treat persons who are receiving involuntary psychiatric treatment under the Mental Health Act.  In Island Health we have identified those groups to be Emergency medicine, psychiatry, hospitalists, general practitioners with admitting privileges, pediatricians and geriatricians.

The team is also finalizing physician education and engagement sessions, set to take place between October 2023 and January 2024. More information on this will be shared when possible.
