About the Project

Dr. Fred Voon hosted an evening event and screening of ‘Screenagers,’ to launch a conversation about technology use by children, young and old.   With a full house of 65 attendees, physicians from both Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital and their families enjoyed a meal and the screening together.  The showing was held in the main lecture theatre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.  While some children sat alongside their parents, others enjoyed the childcare was provided on-site.

Attendees engaged in small group discussions both before and following the showing.  Many commented on how the documentary generated enhanced awareness about teenage technology use. Take away information from the film included understanding digital distraction; appreciating the need for limit-setting; and the unintended consequences and need for balance with education, connectivity and digital literacy.

The organization and delivery of the event itself was appreciated by participants as indicated in the event feedback, which highlighted the delicious healthy food, the ease of attending the event, and the chance to meet new physicians.
