Greg Price, a 31-year-old Alberta man fatally fell through the cracks of the health-care system after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. After his 2012 death, his family advocated for change by continually telling his story, which is depicted in the short film Falling Through the Cracks: Greg’s Story. In spite of the sadness of Greg’s Story, the message of the film is intended to inspire positive change and improvement in the healthcare system. We invite staff to participate in a screening of the film followed a debriefing session led by Greg’s sister, Teri. Teri Price is the Executive Director of Greg’s Wings Projects, a not-for-profit organization created to honour Greg Price. Greg was Teri’s brother and the impact of Greg’s journey through the healthcare system has led to Teri’s commitment, along with her family, to drive improvements in care. Teri is also a member of Patients for Patient Safety Canada and a founding member of IMAGINE Citizens Collaborating for Health. The Price family have received the Medal of Honor from the Alberta Medical Association and the Patient Champion award from the Canadian Patient Safety Institute for their work since Greg’s death.
This is an opportunity for health care providers to understand a patient and family’s experience with the health care system. Discussion will focus on how our team can take the lessons from this film, and create
change that will support patients, families and health care providers.
