The Doctors of BC Health Authority Engagement Survey – your voice matters

The 2025 Doctors of BC Health Authority Engagement Survey is live and ready for your contribution.

Please: Take the time to share your perspective on working within Island Health. This is the single-most important way you can ensure your voice, thoughts, and experiences are shared directly with Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health.

New this year are several open-ended questions that will allow you to share your thoughts on the ongoing health authority administrative reviews:

Q1: Reducing administrative burdens is a top priority for physicians. What is one process that is duplicative, can be consolidated or eliminated in your Health Authority? Likewise for community-based physicians, are there any processes that could be reduced or eliminated to save time and resources?

Q2a: Physician engagement and input can inform many opportunities for cost savings and improving patient care. In terms of Health Authority governance structures (such as its Board of Directors and regional Medical Advisory Committees i.e. HAMACs), what are some opportunities to enhance the physician voice in decision making and can the current governance structures be improved?
Definition: HAMACs are Committees outlined in Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws, they include a mandate to provide advice on medical staff matters to the Board of Directors and CEO.

Q2b: In considering ways for health authorities to improve senior leadership communication with physicians, what is the best way for the Health Authority to communicate with you on matters affecting your work and workplace? Please select your top two choices.

  • Virtual townhalls with senior leadership
  • Email/E-Newsletters
  • Senior leadership verbal updates through local Medical Staff Associations
  • Senior leadership verbal updates through your Department
  • Social media
  • Other (please specify):

Q3: If you were to re-direct funding from administrative functions and processes to front line patient care, where is the one place you recommend redirecting resources too?

Q4: Can you please provide a recent positive and/or negative example of a decision by health authority senior leadership that impacted your work? Were you engaged on the decision?
