2025 South Island MSA Award for Communications Leadership

Over the past few weeks, we have celebrated those who received South Island MSA Recognition Awards at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

Our final South Island MSA Recognition Award is for Communications Leadership and is presented to Dr. Pamela Kibsey.

Nominated by the South Island MSA Executive and seconded by everyone who has since learned of the nomination, Pamela has given so much to not only the South Island medical community, but to the whole Island.

As the long-serving Medical Director of Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology, she not only led a team of skilled, dedicated physicians, but she elevated her specialty at the executive level.  Under her leadership, North America’s first hospital-based robotic microbiology lab was installed at Royal Jubilee Hospital.  Additionally, as the Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Pamela’s leadership during COVID was invaluable:  The molecular diagnostic lab processed up to 1,600 tests daily and still has the shortest turn around for results in the province, with same-day results also available for MPOX, measles, and avian influenza.

On the clinical side, no physician could ask for a better ally.  When a positive result came through, Pamela would always take the time to personally call the ordering physician, walk them through next steps, and provide not only thoughtful clinical advice but also deep collegial support.  Her approach and education kept patients safe and colleagues upskilled.  As shared by one lab medicine physician, “Dr. Kibsey deserves every bit of this award.”  We think so too.

Thank you, Pamela, for your years of collegiality and leadership, and congratulations on your Award for Communications Leadership!

Is there someone who you think deserves recognition?  Nominate them for a Gold Star Award or for a South Island MSA Recognition Award!
