We’ve been delinquent on our announcement of the Gold Star awards – apologies to the nominators and recipients! We’re thrilled to celebrate a number of team members, with more to come soon:
Dr Brandon McGuinness received a thoughtful nomination from Dr. Alex Hoechsmann…
“… for his collegial response to an after midnight call about a patient with a significant upper extremity DVT who had been referred to the ED from radiology for a suggested vascular surgery consult. Despite the patient not needing any vascular surgery consultation or procedure, Dr. McGuinness was professional and helpful. In this time of overcrowded ERs and overworked ER physicians, this type of response makes our jobs so much easier.”
Special thanks were sent to Dr. Sean Lougheed from Dr. Alicia Power:
“I would like to nominate Dr. Sean Lougheed, anesthesiologist, for going above and beyond with the care of a patient. He spent hours working through a challenging issue to ensure the patient had all the information needed to proceed with their care plan.”
Dr. Logan Lee went above and beyond, according to Dr. Kelsey Mills:
“I recently worked with Dr. Lee in Day Surgery at VGH and was unbelievably impressed with his professionalism, technical skill, patient-centred care and ability to think creatively to provide an unconventional, but extremely successful peri-operative experience for a patient experiencing significant challenges with debilitating medical anxiety in the context of a considerable trauma history. His management of the situation, from meeting the patient and liaising with day surgery nurses, to planning and executing this unique anaesthetic, to respecting the patient’s unconventional requests, to supporting the recovery room staff, was a masterclass in managing an extremely challenging clinical scenario. Thank you Dr. Lee, from both the patient, and myself. You are deserving of an MSA gold star!”
Finally, Dr. Colin Casault’s professionalism and contributions made Dr. Alex Hoechsmann’s day:
“I would like to nominate Dr. Colin Casault for a Gold Star award. Dr Casault is an Intensive Care physician who responded quickly to a critically ill patient in the RJH ER. What made his care noteworthy was the expedient decision making that occurred and his early recognition of a patient who warrants critical care. At a time when our ERs are experiencing overcrowding with ongoing human resource challenges, this kind of support does not go unnoticed!”
