Success Story: South Island MSA Award for Communications Leadership

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be recognizing those who received South Island MSA Recognition Awards at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

Our next award is for Communications Leadership, someone who has facilitated effective communication between the medical staff, administration, and the Board of Directors of Island Health.  The Executive is delighted to recognize Dr. Ian Thompson.

As Executive Medical Director, Medical Staff Governance, Dr. Thompson is not a member of the South Island Medical Staff.  However, his contributions to our organization have been invaluable.

Dr. Thompson’s leadership has engendered a culture of open communication between the South Island MSA and Island Health.  He has created an environment where challenging conversations can be had in a psychological safe way, and where we can each simply pick up the phone and solve problems, collegially and collaboratively.  Further, Dr. Thompson intentionally seeks the voice of the Medical Staff an incorporates it into health authority activities, actions, and decisions.  He is an active and welcome participant in South Island MSA events and meetings, and we are grateful for his ongoing support of our activities.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Ian Thompson, and congratulating him on this award for Communications Leadership.
